Meet the founder

Philipp Paech is an educator, consultant and policy-maker specialising in regulation of financial services for more than 20 years. He has been researching the phenomenon of FinTech since 2015 and is the main author of the 30 Recommendations on Innovation, Regulation and Finance instituted by the EU Commission in 2018, which became one of the base documents of the EU’s current Digital Finance Strategy. He is a leading member of the Unidroit global digital asset expert group.

Philipp researches and teaches at London School of Economics and the European University Institute in Florence. He has won several prizes and awards in recognition of his electrifying, innovative educational approach. He is an associate Fellow at the British Higher Education Academy.

He is a consultant and attorney at law in Frankfurt, and a CEDR-accredited mediator in London. Philipp’s previous and current clients include the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Santander, BVBA, Università Catolica, Institute for Law and Finance, the Central Bank of Ireland, and the European Parliament.

Why I started navigatingfintech.com

Keeping up with market, policy and regulatory developments is a huge challenge for everyone. Fast moving, as we can see with AI. Overwhelming, as we can see with DeFi. Genuinely international, as we can see with the attempts to build global digital currencies. And confusing, because terminology and narratives are crafted with marketing (not substance) in mind.

What is needed is an innovative tool for learning and skills-building. And that is where my principles-based teaching approach can make a big difference: I want to use it to simplify our view on things and provide transferable, long-term perspectives. And I wanted users to benefit regardless of their professional background, geographic location or level of expertise. Which is why I created navigatingfintech.com.

Anna has been working in higher education for more than 10 years. Before joining navigatingfintech.com, she was the Programme Director for the Masters in Finance programme at London Business School. Prior to that, Anna worked in international education designing and developing custom faculty-led programmes with a focus on delivering culturally immersive experiences to international students studying in London. Anna has developed and delivered programmes across a range of fields including Business and Finance, Law and Human Rights, Theatre, Journalism and Linguistics. Anna holds a BA in Sociology from the University at Buffalo and an MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy from Goldsmiths, University of London.
